he Archery World Championship was held February 14th-19th , 2018, in the city of Yankton (USA). The student of the Medical Institute of Sumy State University (major "Sport") Oleksii Hunbin, along with Viktor Ruban and Heorhoii Ivanytskyi, took third place in team competitions.
Ukrainians turn aside sportsmen from the Russian Federation 5: 1 in the match for 3 rd -4 th place, having previously yielded to the Dutch in the semifinals with a score of 5:3.

Ukrainian Athletics Championship was held February 9th-11th , 2018, in the athletics complex of Sumy State University.
According to the results of 2017, the best athletes, coaches and judges were awarded during the championship opening ceremony. The best track athlete of 2017 was Serhii Smelyk, an alumnus of Sumy State University.
In addition, Yevhen Hutsol (postgraduate in major “Sport”) – distance 800 m and relay race 4x400 m (in a team); Vladyslav Malykhin (major “Sport”) – pole- vaulting; Yevheniia Mucharova (the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technologies) – relay race 4x400 m among women (youth); Anastasiia Tokar (the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technologies), Anastasiia Shyshniak (the Academic and Research Institute of Law) – relay race 4x400 m among women (adults); Mariia Mykolenko (the Faculty of Foreign Philology and Social Communications) and Vitalii Butrym (an alumnus) – a distance of 400 m; Yaroslav Demchenko (the Machine Building College) – in a relay race 4х400 m (youth) and in a distance of 400 m (youth) were awarded with the golden medals.
Ihor Musiienko (postgraduate student of the Oleg Balatskyi Academic and Research Institute of Finance, Economics and Management) – a shotput; Anastasiia Bryzghina (major “Sport”) – distance 400 m; Oleksandr Pohorilko (major “Sport”), Vladyslav Nikitenko (major “Sport”), Yurii Serdiuk (the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technologies) – relay race 4х400 m (youth); Fedir Savostian (the Academic and Research Institute of Business Technologies “Ukrainian Academy of Banking”), Mykhailo Tiutiunnikov (the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technologies), Oleksii Pozdniakov (major “Sport”), Yaroslav Demchenko (the Machine Building College), Anton Slizchenko (the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technologies) – in a relay race 4x400 m (adults) became silver medalists.
Bronze medals were awarded to Anton Slizchenko (the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technologies) for a distance of 400 m; Oleksii Pozdniakov (major “Sport”) in a relay race 4x400 m (adults); Volodymyr Suprun (an alumnus) for a distance of 60 m; Serhii Smelyk (an alumnus) for a distance of 60 m; Anna Plotitsyna (an alumnus) for a distance of 60-meter in hurdles.
Following the Ukrainian Championship, our students have won the right to take part in the World Championship, which is going to be held March 1st-4th , 2018, in Birmingham (UK).
Yevhen Hutsol, Oleksii Pozdniakov and Vitalii Butrym have joined the National Ukrainian Team.

Bohdan Tsymbal, a student of the Faculty of Technical Systems and Energy Efficient Technologies of Sumy State University took part in the Biathlon European Championships among juniors. The competition has been recently held in Pokljuka, Slovenia.
Student of SSU became a two-time medalist of the junior European Championships. He won a “bronze” in sprint and “silver” in a pursuit race. Only two seconds separated young Sumy sportsman from the “gold”.

On 16th-21th of January, the Ukrainian Archery Championship among adults and juniors was held at the Athletics Complex of Sumy State University.
Students from Sumy State University took part in the competition, namely: among men – Oleksii Hunbin, Vadym Bosenko, Yaroslav Sapozhnikov; among women – Polina Rodionova, Daria Taranova, Iryna Sherstiuk, Veronika Litovtseva; among juniors Oleksandr Mazepa, Yevhen Palazhchenko, Ihor Rotenberh, Anastasiia Shkura, Alina Tenytska.
According to the results of the competition among men, Oleksii Hunbin has been chosen as a member to the National Team of Ukraine, which is going to perform at the World Championship 2018, the USA. Vadym Bosenko got the second place in the team rating. Polina Rodionova became a bronze medalist among women within the team. Oleksand Mazepa won a gold medal among juniors as a team member.

On 12th-17th of January, students of Sumy State University took part in the international cross-skiing races. It was held at the educational and sports camp “Tysovets”, Skole village (Lviv region).
SSU sportsmen honorably represented their city and university. Oleksiy Krasovskyi, a postgraduate student of SSU Medical Institute (MI), major “Physical Culture and Sports” became a silver medalist of the race. According to the results, Oleksiy gained 3 gold medals at the Ukrainian Championship – 15 km in free style racing, 10 km in classic style racing and 1.6 km in sprint race. Besides, Yan Kostruba, the second-year student of the Medical Institute, major “Physical Culture and Sports” won 2 bronzes in aforementioned disciplines.
A gold medal was received by a Master`s student of the Academic and Research Institute of Law Viktoriia Olekh in the duathlon for 7,5 km + 7,5 km among women. Yuliia Krol, the second year student of the MI, major “Physical Culture and Sports” came second.
Representatives of Sumy State University – Viktoriia Olekh, Oleksiy Marchenko, a Master`s student of MI, major “Physical Culture and Sport”, and Daria Rubliova, the first year student of MI, major “Physical Culture and Sports”, gained additional 3 gold medals in a relay race on the last day.
Also, Yan Kostruba and Daria Rubliova performed a qualifying standard for the Master of Sports of Ukraine in skiing.
In total, more than 50 sportsmen from Ukraine, Bulgaria, Belarus and the Republic of Kazakhstan took part in the races.

Ukrainian judoka Andrii Kolesnyk (student of Oleg Balatskyi Academic and Research Institute of Finance, Economics and Management) won bronze at the men`s event of heavyweight +100 kg at the 2017 Summer Universiade, held in Taipei. Andrii Kolesnyk got several victories towards the final but lost to Ju Young-seo, the representative of South Korea, in the semi-final. The Ukrainian judoka won Ruan Da Silva, the representative of Brazil, fighting for the bronze medal.
Sumy State University delegated 12 highly-qualified sportsmen for participating at the 29th Summer Universiade, scheduled from August 19th till 30th in Taipei, Taiwan. They represent the Ukrainian team in volleyball, judo, athletics and archery.

On May 8-9, 2017 the international students’ football team of SSU Medical Institute took the first place in Ukrainian Football Championship among African students. The football tournament took place in Vinnytsia, where SSU team “International” met Vinnytsia students and gained victory. Roman Halenin and Anton Yunak are the coaches of SSU international students’ football team.

The 43rd European Wado Kai Karate Championships took place at Liège (Belgium) on 4-6 November 2016. 460 athletes from 15 countries participated in it. Student of Oleg Balatskyi Academic and Research Institute of Finance, Economics and Management of Sumy State University Ivan Bolbit won silver (kumite, 16-17 years, +76 kg) as the part of Ukrainian national team.

On April 25th 2017 the ХІІІ Summer All-Ukrainian Universiade was opened at SSU Athletic Complex. Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Roman Hreba attended the event. He described the University’s sports base as one of the best in Ukraine, calling it exemplary. ‘There’s well-developed sports infrastructure in Sumy region, that’s why the Ministry decided to hold the Summer Universiade, namely judo competition here’.
‘Today Sumy region confirms the high sports status in Ukraine and the whole world. I would like to thank the organizers and Sumy State University for the high-level competition. I wish all athletes success and victories. The main thing for you is to become more professional and achieve the best results for your region and our Ukraine,’ says Region governor Mykola Klochko.
SSU Rector Anatoliy Vasylyev greeted participants of the Universiade. ‘I don’t wish you victory, I wish you luck. For each of you the participation in these competitions of national importance is a victory already. Each of you has already won.’
The XIII Summer Universiade launched by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine together with the Student Sports Union of Ukraine and the Committee for Physical Education and Sport gathered more than 200 of the best athletes in judo from 47 higher education institutions of 17 Ukrainian regions in Sumy. The opening ceremony was attended by honored guests – representatives of Sumy region authorities, Rectors of Kharkiv and Lviv universities, heads of sports federations and associations who wished athletes success during the competitions. According to the experts Summer All-Ukrainian Universiade competition will be a good test for athletes and help them to show the best results in the competition program of the XXIX World Summer Universiade 2017 that will be held in China very soon.
After the grand opening of Universiade in judo, Deputy Minister visited Sumy State University. During his meeting with SSU Rector Anatoliy Vasylyev and vice-rectors the University’s development was discussed. Roman Hreba got acquainted with the achievements and accomplishments of the University. Then the guest had a tour on the campus, during which Deputy Minister visited Family Support Center ‘Student Stork’, modern information and library center, learning centers of IT companies – SSU partners. The innovative e-learning projects and modern laboratories were presented to the guest. During the visit Roman Hreba had a look at sports base and conditions for student study and their leisure.
